An awesome student from our education program made this wiki. It is not managed by iFixit staff.
The Acer Aspire Switch 10 SW5-011-18R3 is a 2-in-1 Tablet with docking keyboard running Windows OS. It was originally released May 2014.
During use the trackpad stops working.
To enable or disable the trackpad, simultaneously press the function (Fn) key and the F7 key. A message will appear on the screen indicating whether the trackpad is enabled or disabled.
Start by putting the device to sleep. Then physically disconnect the keyboard dock from the tablet. Reconnect the keyboard dock to the tablet to re-establish the connection between the tablet and keyboard dock.
Acer Live Updater should download and install this update without requiring the system to reboot. If you have removed or never launched Acer Live Updater, please use the following steps: Connect your Switch 10 to the keyboard dock and AC adapter. They must remain connected until the update is complete. Press the WINDOWS key to access the Start screen. Type LIVE UPDATER. Double click LIVE UPDATER to launch the program. Tap CHECK FOR UPDATES. The keyboard dock update will install in the background. Close the application.
First, uninstall the trackpad drivers via Device Manager. Click START, then right-click COMPUTER and click MANAGE. In the computer management window, click DEVICE MANAGEMENT. Click the + sign in front of MOUSE AND OTHER POINTING DEVICES. Right-click the device listed below MOUSE AND OTHER POINTING DEVICES and select UNINSTALL. Click OK to confirm. Then restart the computer to let Windows reinstall the drivers. If the drivers do not automatically install, then go to http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/driv.. to manually install the drivers. Select Notebook under Group heading, Aspire Switch under Series heading, then select SW5-011 under Product heading. Finally, download and install drivers.
The device will not respond to holding down the power button.
With the charger plugged in if the battery indicator light on the power button does not come on the charger is faulty. Replace the charger.
Plug the device in, if the indicator light on the power button blinks an amber color, then the battery is critically low or faulty. Let the device charge for at least an hour. Turn on.
If the indicator light still blinks an amber color instead of displaying a steady amber color after being on the charger for at least an hour, the battery is faulty. Replace the battery using this guide. Cut out letters in photoshop.
If the device has a charge, the indicator light on the power button displays a steady blue or amber color when plugged in, and still will not turn it needs to be reset. There is a reset pinhole between the microphone and Micro SD card slot on the right side of the device (screen facing you in upright position). Insert a pin needle size object into the pinhole and hold down the reset button for four seconds. Device should turn on.
If none of the above troubleshooting topics solve the problem the motherboard may need to be replaced by using this guide.
The device won't connect to wifi at all or can't stay connected to wifi.
If your drivers are not up to date, your device will not connect to any wifi source. It will tell you that all drivers are up to date even though they are not. Using this site http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/dri.., manually install the drivers. Select Notebook under Group heading, Aspire Switch under Series heading, then select SW5-011 under Product heading. Finally, download and install drivers.
While in use, the screen will black out or remain dark after booting.
To reboot from BIOS, you'll have to restart the tablet. As the tablet starts up, press the F2, F9, and F10 keys and hit ENTER. Simply select EXIT and click YES to confirm. The device will restart.
Remove the battery from the tablet, but keep it plugged in to the charger. Hold the power button and F12 key down for about 60 seconds. The device will power down and then restart with the issue resolved.
When the tablet is connected to the keyboard, it does not work.

try this:
settings/Apps - select ALL
Tap the Acer Live updater application
tap on clear data (if available) and tap on clear cache
tap on force stop
then go to settings/about tablet
tap on System updates and check now
if it still crash, you can try a factory reset too (backup all your personal data first)
settings/Backup & reset - factory data reset
once done, don't install any application but check about updates
then go to settings/about tablet
tap on System updates and check now
Thanks for your help.
Clearing the data and cache and force stopping the Live Updater app didn't work.
Doing a factory reset on the tab did work and the update is currently downloading.
I had already tried your first option before asking for help on this forum. I also searched to see if I could download the update and flash it from the recovery environment but couldn't find it and had hoped that I wouldn't have to do a factory reset.
Thanks again.
Acer Updater is yet another application provided by Acer for its customers to make sure they always have the latest driver versions installed on the system.
While this may seem as a honorable method of rewarding Acer laptop and desktop computer owners, the problem with such software is its poor compatibility with the operating system as well as the overall impact it has on the stability and performance of the PC.
While any Acer computer can survive without Acer Updater or any other bundled bloatware, the trend with such companies is to deliver pre-installed software that may or may not satisfy the general public. For some users, this practice is just wrong and even considered bad-intended.
The first thing you notice with Acer Updater is the fact that you may not be able to run it on Windows 7 until you install a special update from Microsoft especially tailored for Acer Updater.
There is a saying and it goes like this: “if the mountain won’t come to Muhammad” and that’s what Acer proved. They did not rebuild their software in order to be fully compatible with Windows 7, Microsoft had to make sure of this.
Once more, it feels like computer manufacturers tend to channel their resources within software that just does not make anyone happier and this is just the case with Acer Updater. Why would you want a software to continuously run on your computer and even cause issues while doing this for providing something that it rarely does? Well, you don’t.
